We work with buyers all the time who base finding their forever home on school districts. Oklahoma City has recently voted to enact The Pathway to Greatness project that will radically shake the school district to make some overdue changes as well as reconfigure the school district assignments.
OKC public schools outline the benefits to the Pathway to Greatness plan as:
- A plan that charts a path forward for OKCPS to improve the health of our system & equity for students
- A phased process to align OKCPS facilities & resources with instructional needs
- A community engagement process that informs and incorporates the voices of our families, students, staff and community
Some of the largest changes coming to the school district include consolidating grade bands district-wide (PK-4, 5-8, 9-12). Fifteen school closures will take place which will directly increase the number of students per schools, creating smaller class sizes and teacher teams to collaborate, and increase support staff per school. The closed schools will be repurposed for student enrichment and community health.
Newly assigned schools will go into effect starting with the new school year in fall 2019.
Below, we have compiled a list of OKC neighborhoods and their new school district assignment. If you would like to request a transfer, the school district as listed instructions:
All students wishing to transfer to an OKCPS school other than their assigned schools are required to submit a complete, timely transfer application through the Office of Student Services. Students should not rely on previous years’ transfers and assume their transfers are still valid.
All transfers granted for the 2019-2020 school year will be honored thereafter until the student matriculates past the school site’s grade band, violates the Student Transfer Contract or the student is no longer in “good standing” and the transfer is properly revoked.
Transfer requests can be found here.
A district-wide Open House is scheduled for May 4, 2019, so OKCPS students and families can visit their school and meet the principal.
